Certainly! As a tropical fruit enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting discoveries. I'm fortunate to have access to the research center in Homestead, Florida, where I recently stumbled upon something fascinating. It all began with a loquat, which happened to be a root sprout from a grafted Sherry loquat tree.
This root sprout stood out because it looked strikingly different from the typical loquats I'm accustomed to. It had an almost feminine quality in its leaves, flowers, and fruit, setting it apart from the rest. I have quite a collection of 10 different loquat varieties, and this one was truly unique in appearance.
When I decided to explore further, I cut a small section from the fruit to extract the seeds and was surprised by what I found. The nectar oozed out slowly, resembling honey pouring from a bottle. I couldn't resist tasting it, and it was a delightful, sweet surprise. The loquat's flavor was reminiscent of honey, and the combination was simply exquisite. I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon this potentially new favorite among my loquat varieties
