Tree Tomato
Solanum Betaceum also known as Tree Tomato or Tamarillo is native to South America. This oblong, egg shaped fruit is grown on small bushy trees or shrubs. The skin on the fruit can vary in many colors depending on the variety. The colors can range from orange, red, yellow and even deep purple. Underneath its smooth surface, the flesh is light orange with a semi firm texture, similar to jello. When ripe, the flesh has a sweet tart flavor, with tangy and acidic notes. It is reminiscent of a common tomato but with less water content and a burst of flavor.
